How to Crochet a Cactus Pin Cushion with Storage Space!

Welcome back to my blog! Today's pattern is gonna be my cactus pin cushion with storage space for stitch markers and all that fun stuff. If you would prefer to watch a tutorial, feel free to check out my youtube video through the link below:

Abbreviations:

sl st - slip stitch

st - stitch

MR - magic ring

sc - single crochet

inc - increase

dec - decrease

BLO - back loops only


Materials Needed:

  • medium weight size 4 acrylic yarn in caramel and green

  • 3.75-4 mm crochet hook

  • polyester stuffing

  • scissors

  • stitch marker


Let's start with the cactus pot...

Round 1: 6 sc in MR (6)


Round 2: inc around (12)

Round 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) repeat around (18)


Round 4: (2 sc, 1 inc) repeat around (24)


Rounds 5-6: sc around (24)

Round 7: (3 sc, 1 inc) repeat around (30)


Rounds 8-9: sc around (30)


Round 10: (4 sc, 1 inc) repeat around (36)


Rounds 11-13: sc around (36)


Rounds 14-15: sc around BLO (36)

Round 16: sc around (36) Sl st, fasten off, and cut yarn.

For the cactus...

Round 1: 6 sc in MR (6)


Round 2: inc around (12)


Round 3: (1 sc, 1 inc) repeat around (18)

Round 4: (2 sc, 1 inc) repeat around (24)


Round 5: (3 sc, 1 inc) repeat around (30)


Round 6: (4 sc, 1 inc) repeat around (36)


Round 7: (5 sc, 1 inc) repeat around (42)

Rounds 8-12: sc around (42)


Round 13: (5 sc, 1 dec) repeat around (36)


Round 14: (4 sc, 1 dec) repeat around (30)


Round 15: (3 sc, 1 dec) repeat around (24)

Round 16: (2 sc, 1 dec) repeat around (18) Stuff cactus.

Round 17: (1 sc, 1 dec) repeat around (12)


Round 18: dec around (6)


Round 19: insert hook into all 6 st around, yarn over, and pull through every stitch. Fasten off and cut yarn.

You can make extra little circles to add onto your cactus and give it character; just keep in mind that you may have to put a weight into the pot to account for the heavier top to keep it from falling over.
